The United States and Jordan have unveiled a new trade accord designed to broaden economic collaboration, lessen trade hurdles, and foster new business opportunities within both nations. This agreement marks an effort to enhance the flow of goods and services by facilitating duty-free access for most American products entering Jordan. Additionally, both countries will collaborate to eliminate logistical and trade challenges that can impede commerce.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer highlighted that this agreement is a testament to President Donald Trump’s initiative to fortify economic and strategic alliances in the Middle East, while simultaneously seeking to unlock new markets for American exporters. On the other hand, Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, noted that Jordanian exports to the US will incur a 10 percent tariff, whereas US goods will continue to benefit from duty exemptions under the current free-trade arrangement. This development is anticipated to stimulate increased investment between the two countries.

The roots of this economic partnership trace back to 2001 when Jordan became the first Arab nation to sign a free-trade agreement with the United States. By 2010, all duties under this agreement were completely abolished, providing a robust framework for bilateral trade activities.

In recent years, trade between the US and Jordan reached a substantial $5.34 billion in 2025, according to US government statistics. Jordan’s primary exports to the United States include chemicals, garments, mineral products, and precious stones. The Kingdom also maintains significant import relationships with countries such as China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
