Sharjah has unveiled an innovative logistics corridor in collaboration with Oman, dramatically cutting cargo transit times from nearly three months to just 35 days. This strategic initiative aims to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce transportation expenses, and bolster trade connections between the UAE, Oman, and other regional markets. The corridor links Sharjah with Oman’s major ports, including Sohar, Duqm, and Salalah, utilizing the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings. Officials anticipate that as operations mature, transit times will continue to decrease.

To promote the corridor’s usage, Sharjah has implemented several incentives for cargo trucks traveling through the designated routes from Oman. These include toll exemptions, expedited customs clearance, and streamlined cargo movements. Additionally, businesses have the flexibility to complete customs procedures at inland container terminals rather than at the border crossings, further speeding up the process. The initiative is expected to reduce logistics costs by approximately 15%, varying according to the cargo type and transportation needs.

The new logistics route is particularly advantageous for manufacturers, as it expedites the transportation of both raw materials and finished goods. This development aligns with Sharjah’s broader strategy to cement its status as a regional logistics and manufacturing hub. The emirate hosts over 3,000 factories, contributing nearly a quarter of its GDP. The enhanced trade corridor is anticipated to boost exports and attract international investors eager to tap into markets in Africa, India, and Asia.

Operational since May 14, the corridor facilitates two-way cargo movement supported by coordinated customs procedures, real-time data sharing, and dedicated fast-track shipment lanes. As a result, the new logistics corridor not only strengthens trade links but also underscores Sharjah’s commitment to becoming a pivotal player in the regional logistics landscape.
