Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi hosted Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing, emphasizing the importance of de-escalating the conflict that has significant implications for the international community.
Wang Yi stressed that the ongoing discord between Washington and Tehran is counterproductive not only for the involved parties but also for global stability. He advocated for both countries to adhere to their existing memorandum of understanding and to revive talks based on prior agreements. Wang also highlighted the critical role of the Strait of Hormuz, calling for its reopening to ensure that international shipping routes remain secure and accessible, which is vital for maintaining global energy supplies and supply chains.
The Chinese foreign minister’s appeal extended to the broader region, urging neighboring countries to contain the tensions and prevent them from spreading to areas like Yemen and the Red Sea.
