In the wake of heightened tensions between Iran and the international community, Italy is calling for a shift in Tehran’s diplomatic approach. This appeal comes after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a strongly-worded speech at the United Nations General Assembly, where he criticized the United States and asserted Iran’s resilience against external pressure.
Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, responded to Pezeshkian’s address by urging Iran to adopt a less confrontational stance. Tajani characterized the Iranian president’s speech as “very hard” and emphasized Italy’s support for finding a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing tensions involving Iran.
Highlighting concerns over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, Tajani called on Tehran to reconsider its pursuit of nuclear weapons. He stressed that a more conciliatory approach could benefit Iran by enabling it to maintain its positions while keeping diplomatic channels open.
