During the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi emphasized his country’s dedication to resolving international disputes through dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful negotiations. Highlighting the essential role of dialogue in building trust and addressing international crises, Al Busaidi underscored the importance of respecting national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, while avoiding force and interference in the internal affairs of states.
Oman also expressed concerns about the impact of regional conflicts on security, trade, and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Al Busaidi reiterated Oman’s efforts to ensure the freedom of navigation in line with international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. He urged all parties to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through dialogue and political negotiations, reaffirming solidarity with neighboring Gulf countries to protect their security and sovereignty.
In addressing the crisis in Yemen, Oman renewed its support for a political settlement that preserves the country’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity. Al Busaidi called on all parties to work towards a resolution that upholds the rights and dignity of the Yemeni people and supports the country’s reconstruction and development.
Furthermore, Oman condemned ongoing Israeli attacks and violations affecting Palestinians, reaffirming support for Palestinian rights and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on the borders of June 4, 1967, consistent with the two-state solution and relevant UN resolutions. Oman also highlighted its commitment to promoting tolerance and countering hate speech through the Muscat Plan, in cooperation with the United Nations.
Additionally, Al Busaidi emphasized Oman’s commitment to sustainable development under Oman Vision 2040. This includes investments in renewable energy, sustainable transport, green industries, and efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, reflecting the nation’s broader aspirations for environmental responsibility and economic diversification.
